The One you feed
A legendary story is told about a grandfather who was teaching about life. “A fight is going in inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.
The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too!”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then
asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The wise grandfather replied, “The one you feed.”
Today I launch my blog page with that story, to highlight the internal struggle we all face constantly.
Bearing in mind the above story, I have discovered that our lives tend to move in the direction of which “wolf” we feed the most.
Having inter-acted with many gifted and talented people over the years, I have come to appreciate that we need the help of others to feed the good wolf inside of us to overcome the temptation of giving-up.
When we feed the good wolf we can become joyful, peaceful, compassionate, experience true love, have a constant sense of hope (even in these trying and tragic COVID times), have a clear appreciation of the truth, and remain pro-active and productive.
This is one of the founding tenets of this blog: #YourBetterSelf.
I believe that it is within our power to cultivate the better versions of our
selves, by feeding the good wolf inside of us.
Through this Blog and work as a Professional Coach, I want to contribute towards feeding the good wolf inside of you.
The Wolf you feed the most influences the direction your life takes.
This story is a good metaphor for reflecting on our lives as individuals, and where we want to go.
I am not here to judge anyone. But I am here to support you, encourage you to feed the good wolf.
I have struggled to live through this terrible fight, of the two wolves, in my own life, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially and physically.
The most profound experience is when I contracted COVID in January 2021 and was hospitalized.
Each of the eight days I spent in hospital isolated from the world, I had to endure the terrible fight by feeding the good wolf, and consciously intensify hope for my recovery.
It was at a time when only a few days before, we had just buried my dear mother who had succumbed to COVID.
While thinking of my loved ones, I chose to feed the good wolf for a palpable sense of hope to keep going.
On 28 January 2021, the day I was discharged, I felt like I had been given a second chance to life. I decided there and then, that I would make it count. Hence through Professional Coaching, I work with clients to seek their good wolf; that the good wolf can be fed towards a better version of one-self; I call it awakening the better self.
You may be asking yourself today, “What wolf will win inside of you?
The grandfather in the story filled with wisdom will reply to you: “The one you feed!”
The question remains though: “Which one do you want to feed?”
