Know better, Do Better!

This past week, I was privileged to attend the Enterprise Supplier Development Training sponsored by Impala Mines (http://www.implats.co.za/pdf/fact-sheets/implats-enterprise-development-fact-sheet-april-2016.pdf) and facilitated by Classic Oriental Consultancy (PTY) Ltd (https://classicoriental.co.za/).

Our class of participants comprised budding Entrepreneurs like myself. All of us are at different stages of our entrepreneurial journey. The interesting thing, I found about the class is the diversity of the industries represented. One Entrepreneur alone is involved in PPE Supplies, Events Management and Logistics under one company. Others are into Farming, Construction, Information Technology, Tourism, Mining Supplies and so on.

The profound message that was clearly conveyed by all the Session Facilitators revolved around acquiring knowledge and actually applying that knowledge. The host facilitator Mr Thapelo Rapoo dramatically demonstrated why knowledge is important for every Entrepreneur. Mr Thabo Moloi who is well established in the Digital Media Space (http://media.ebozi.co.za) shared about books that would add great value to our performance and achievement of results as Entrepreneurs. Advocate Anthony Malunga – an experienced Commercial Lawyer exposed in-depth the notion of legal implications when businesses are operated with or without due compliance, right from the time of their formation.

Lisa Nichols – a reknowned Author, Speaker and Transformation Coach and Speaker makes a famous statement. She says, “When you know better, do better!”

This is my take home lesson after attending the Enterprise Development workshop.

Yes, as an Entrepreneur I have made decisions and choices. Some of them great. Others not so great. Previous choices I made were based on what I knew at the time. But now with better knowledge and lessons, I have learned from the losses. It is now crucial that I should never repeat the same mistakes. Now that I know better, I should do better!

In fact Thabo Moloi sums it up well when he says, “in Entrepreneurship there are no failures: There are only Losses and Lessons. And it is imperative that we all learn from our losses – for us to keep reaching out to goals and dreams.”

Happy Mpete (https://www.facebook.com/H-H-Accountellus-236860036442409/) reminded us on the importance of applying basic money and financial principles towards increased growth, in our businesses.

In working with Individuals and Organisations, I have witnessed over and over again, that when clients know better, they choose to do better, and get better results towards their unique goals, dreams and aspirations.

Personal Development Coaching therefore, exposes us to improved knowledge that we can do better in our Personal and Professional lives. As Entrepreneurs, we need to constantly keep working on ourselves.

With enriched knowledge, and inspired by the Session facilitators I am committing to do even better going forward.

What about you? What is stopping you from doing better?  What are you going to do to gain a better perspective of your situation – the one you want to improve?

Scientists tell us that our brains are malleable. They never wear out or grow old. One can learn a new skill, a new language, as long one puts effort into it. The more effort one puts into it, the more one improves. Cumulatively, over a period of time, this can make a huge difference in one’s life. It starts with the commitment to learn more.

Hence, with increased learning one can know better, and do better!
