Become
“Be the Change you want to see.” this statement is attributed to Mahatma Gandhi. It is a simple phrase, but like one wise saying goes: “It is easier said, than done”.
My view is that it is not impossible to become.
It takes conscious effort and daily commitment to Become. And that is where the work is.
Dreaming is easy. Talking is easy. But doing is the
crux. In fact one famous ancient writer once said, “Be doers, and not just hearers of the word.”
Bruce Springsteen – a famous musician also pointed
out, saying: “A time comes when you need
to stop waiting for the person you want to become and start being the person
you want to be.”
Becoming requires action. There is power in actions.
Miracles happen, when one takes action. That is the secret to become. One of my
favourite writers called Allon Raiz, made a statement that helps me to focus, every
time I feel weary or demotivated. He says, “The
power of hundreds of little actions creates resonance and waves of forwards
movement. Don’t under estimate the power of the smallest action.”
Allon’s statement summarises succinctly the secret
behind becoming.
Many times we are tempted to become without wanting to
do. And that results in frustrations of all sorts. James Allen makes revealing statement
in his book entitled, ‘As a Man Thinketh’.
He says: “People are anxious to improve
their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore
remain bound.”
At the end of the day, a pertinent question remains,
who do you want to become? Whatever your vision is of who you want to become,
the key to this lies in doing what it takes to become. One way of achieving
what and who you want to become – sooner than it would take you to do it alone
– is by choosing to work with a Coach.
Becoming is a process that requires inspiration,
motivation, and continuous reinforcement. A Coach provides you with a safe
space and opportunity to explore all that there is towards becoming.
Becoming requires steadfast patience. It is not an
overnight process. It requires persistence and unwavering commitment to
achieve. It is not for a select few. Becoming is available for everyone. What
sets us apart is the doing, the commitment to action.
As you come to the end of 2022, and you look at the
goals you set on 01 January 2022, to become, the question is: have you become what you set out to become?
If yes, well done! If no, then ask yourself, what stopped you from becoming?
The answer would lie in action or inaction thereof.
All is not lost. The lessons of failure and success
continue to enrich our journey towards becoming. In fact success and failure is
simply feedback of actions. That which we are doing well, and that which we
should consider to change towards the results we desire, in case we are not
happy with the results thereof.
With each new day, comes the opportunity to press reset,
restart, and renew the commitment towards becoming – who we are meant to
become.
