Growing
Up.
About
two weeks ago, I met one of my avid readers of my Blog at the supermarket,
while I was doing grocery shopping. Unknown to him, I have deep respect for him
for the way he carries himself. After exchanging greetings, he asked me: “Are you not publishing the Blogs anymore?”
My
response was, “I have been having some down-time. But I will resume soon.”
After
we parted, I asked myself: “What has prevented me from publishing my the posts
consistently of late?” And as I rummaged my brain for answers, one thing kept
coming back, again and again. That one thing is: growing up. And so I asked
myself, “What has growing up got to do with anything? ”
I
am still seeking for answers. But, one interesting phrase I came across sheds
some light to possible answers to the question that is filling my mind. The
phrase reads: “Growing up is losing some illusions, in order to acquire
others.”
As
2023 is gradually coming to an end, may be the questions one would ask themselves
could be: “What illusions should I let go that are no longer serving me?” “What
new ones should I acquire, that will serve me in 2024?”
Growing
Up is not necessarily automatic. It is intentional. That is a key insight
for me that I could take with me into 2024. Another phrase I have come across says,
“Growing Old is mandatory, but Growing Up is optional” . I would dare add,
growing up is intentional.
I
would attribute my silence, since the last blog, as a time of opting to grow,
and acquiring new illusions as I edge towards 2024.
Thank
you to all who have made my journey in 2023 memorable. There are many lessons I
have learned. One of them is: Growing Up.
As
you begin to look back on your journey during 2023, how would you describe your moments
of Growing Up?
