Change?

So we are told, and many times reminded that: Change is the only constant!

Question is: do we like change? In fact, do we even want things to change?

Personally, I am happy with the status quo, especially when things seem to be going well. Why change, anyway?

So this past week, I was forced to reflect on the change(s) I encountered in my reality. A lot of matters demanded my attention, at the same time. One would say, it comes with age. But on a more sober note, I realised that the pressure of prioritising and trying to deal with all-important issues, at the same time, was due to the fact that I was ill–prepared to deal with the change(s) taking place in my situation of reality.

In the moment, I could not see it. But in hindsight, I realised that, had I been a little more prepared, just maybe I would not feel the pressure.

One wise man said one day, “learn from other people’s  mistakes. You may not live long enough to learn from your own.”

So my objective to share this post today is to share about the mistake I made of not being prepared in dealing with matters at the same time. Perhaps it would be an opportunity for someone else to learn and not fall into the trap of not looking ahead.

While the year is still ‘young’ the are changes that have come, and still going to come. Is there a way of anticipating change? What happens when change happens and you are completely oblivious to what it may require of you?

There is a powerful notion that I recently learnt from a great teacher. He says, “develop the practice of present-moment awareness.”  During this past week, I have endeavoured to practice that notion of present-moment awareness. And so, I focus on what really matters in the here and now. I satisfactorily complete what is required for me, in that moment - and then move to the next aspect that requires my attention. Instead of attempting to multi-task, I give my full attention to the now, and before moving on to the next.

Should you find yourself overwhelmed and pressured, because of the numerous change(s) happening to you at the same time, remember the notion of present-moment awareness. I am sure you will manage better going forward.

And when you look back, you may ask yourself with a smile: How did I manage the Change?
