Doing it!

What are you not doing that you should be doing? What are you doing that you should not be doing? What were you supposed to have done that you did not do?

What do you enjoy doing that you have ignored for so long? Do you know what you are supposed to be doing now, at this point in your life?

Are you happy with what you are doing in your life right now?

When will you start doing it… that which you know serves you well, and brings out the best in you?

Doing that one thing; that one must do to make a difference in one’s own life and the lives of the loved ones, is a challenge that many find themselves in.

How come we find it a challenge to do that one thing, which could lead to our breakthrough? What stops us from being bold to take that very first step, especially when we are aware of that which must be done?

Is it fear of success or fear of failure, or laziness?

"You’ll never plough a field by turning it over in your mind," so says an Irish Proverb.

In other words it is from actually going to the field and putting your hand to the plough that you can eventually achieve the preparation of the land for the seed; and eventually harvest! No matter how much you think it over in your mind, and not doing it, it will never get done.

Someone told me that no matter how many books you read on swimming, you cannot learn how to swim until you get into the water! Doing it!

What we describe as success, in the people that we admire, is a culmination and a series of action steps, big and small, that have led them to achieve. They have done what they had to do, at the time they had to do it, to get where they are. Doing it!

Muhammad Ali once observed:  “I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”

There is no perfect time and conditions to do that which you must do. Do it when you are ready, when you are least prepared, when you uncertain or even less confident. Do it any way. A Chinese proverb sums it up well: “A journey of one thousand miles, begins with the first step!”

It does not describe how pleasant, easy, or how difficult the journey will be. But it simply focuses on the first step.

In my experience as a Coach, I have come to appreciate that it is the next action step that is more important for one to remain on track to achieve a desired goal or set of goals. No matter what the circumstances are, it is the courage to take action and keeping the momentum that brings one to the desired destination.

So dear friend: Take that action today and keep on… Doing it!

  2. Wow! This has come at a time when the same questions are running in my mind. There is something I am procrastinating over which means I am doing something I should not be doing and avoiding what I should be doing.

  7. On point diagnosis. Planning paralysis. I am now 8 years into writing and rewriting versions of one concept. I always find a "justifiable" reason to change something.

  11. We lose a lot of time when we keep procrastininating. Only to regret the lost time, later on. I think it would help if we keep reminding ourselves that we do not have all the time in the world.
