Conversations
Yes. Conversations. What about them?
Interestingly,
conversations have a strong influence on our perspectives on just about
everything in life. What we believe, or have strong opinions about, be it
negative or positive. It is all guided by conversations.
These
conversations could be with self, or inter-active with other people.
Conversations
can be described as being: alluring, amusing, attractive, beautiful, compelling,
curious, delightful, engaging, exotic, fascinating, impressive, intriguing, lovely,
pleasing, provocative, refreshing, stimulating, striking, thought-provoking, unusual,
absorbing, captivating, enchanting, gripping, inviting, riveting, stirring, elegant,
exceptional, and pleasurable. The list could go on and on.
My key
interest today, is about the quality of conversations that we have with self.
I tend to
think that, the conversations that we have with self is where the magic
happens. And yet, we seem to take little or no notice at all that our minds are
always in conversation, ALL THE TIME.
And what
makes the quality of conversations with self, important? I think it is because
we make up our minds a lot with self. In turn this produces what we see
physically (as also some would say what manifests in one’s life). Conversations
we have with self can also be referred to as thoughts.
In her
TedEx talk, Busi Selesho puts it succinctly: “Thoughts create actions; these actions end up as behavior; and the behavior
ends up being your life.”
This all
starts as conversations with self. More interestingly is that, thoughts
(conversations with self) have the potent power to create. So what (goals) do
you want to create for your life and in your life?
To sift
through the vast conversations with self and make sense of what one can achieve
in a shorter time, than they would have done by themselves, is what Coaching
really is about.
The
Coaching conversation is all about one having a structured conversation towards
a desired goal. In fact one writer puts it this way: “Coaching as a conversation is a
powerful and a dynamic interchange between the Coach and the Client.”
Everyone and anyone who wants to do better in
life can find a good Coach to facilitate this dynamic inter-change.
I was humbled to learn that Oprah Winfrey has had
at least four Coaches working with her at some point in her life. That could
explain the level of her success. She makes time to unclutter her thoughts
(conversations with self) in a structured way. And that brings clarity to what
she chooses to do by creating what she wants for her life and those that she
seeks to serve through Television and broadcast media.
Isn’t that also the story of people that we
perceive as successful? When one studies successful people, in there, you would
realise that they make time to de-clutter their conversations with self
regularly.
How would you want to raise the quality of your
conversations with self, going forward: to be more, have more and do better?
Get yourself a Coach and make time to have
dynamic and fruitful conversations. I am
sure it will help you elevate the quality of conversations with self.
Good stuff, conversation with self😏
